DURHAM, North Carolina — An endocrinologist by the name of Deanna Adkins (left) has founded a new center which purports to address gender-related disorders at Duke Children’s Hospital and Health Center, according to a recent article that appeared in the Charlotte Observer yesterday. The Center for Child and Adolescent Gender Care, which opened in July, is the first of its kind in North Carolina and one of only a handful in the Southeast.

The new center purports to address the problem of “gender dysphoria,” a condition in which a person’s emotional and psychological identity as male or female doesn’t match his or her biological sex. Apparently, Duke’s “solution” is centered around “changing” the patent’s biological gender through surgical procedures, so that it will match with his or her psychological feelings.

However, patients aren’t considered as candidates for “sex-change surgery” until they are 18 years old, according to Adkins. For this reason, Adkins uses hormone blockers to delay puberty until the child is considered old enough to undergo surgery. As early as age 16, the young person may receive permeant steroids.

When speaking about suicide tendencies among young people who identify as transgender, Adkins said, “This is almost more deadly than anything else I treat.”

But what does God say about gender? Genesis 1:27 says,

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
