Tony Campolo follows his convictions (social justice/cultural marxism) to their logical conclusion and endorses SSM.
His article is riddled with question-begging logic, Scripture-twisting arguments, emotional justifications, and appeals to authority that are all-too-common in this “debate.”
Nevertheless, the argument will find wide approval in the press. What’s worse is the number of marginal, immature, confused, and/or weary Christians that will latch on to this and use it as justification for abandoning biblical truth.
Nevertheless, the Lord reigns! He knows those who are his, and his truth will prevail. This is a line in the sand. There will be no room for compromise once the church becomes the target of open assault as a result of the shifting moral climate. Soon, it will be as illegal for churches to oppose “sexual orientation” as it is for us to oppose ethnicity. When that day comes, the lie (we don’t care what you do in your churches) will give way to the truth (the church must embrace this or be crushed under the boot of totalitarianism.. in the name of tolerance), and the gospel will once again shine like a bright star in the night sky.
The change Campolo represents is coming like a tsunami. Of course, there are those who warned of the danger of embracing men like Campolo for decades (he spoke at HBU amid some controversy when I was a student there), only to be told that his voice (i.e., the “Social Justice/Cultural Marxist voice) was too important to be ignored. We needed to be chided for our lack of attention to the poor, the downtrodden, the outcast… and the only people qualified to do so were theological liberals. The dichotomy was as false then as it is today.
The die has been cast… the battle joined! Those who continue to ask “why so much attention the THIS issue? need to WAKE UP! This is THE social issue of our day! Other issues matter (many are related philosophically), but this one ups the ante.
