Supporters of Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore will rally in Montgomery next week to oppose his suspension by the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission (JIC).
“Chief Justice Roy Moore has been suspended by the Judicial Inquiry Commission (the JIC—an appointed body) from his position as Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court because of his belief about marriage and his strict adherence to the rule of law,” a flyer advertising the rally said. “It’s time to show up. It’s time to speak. It’s time to actually care enough to do something.”
After a federal judge purported to “strike down” Alabama’s marriage amendment in January of 2015, Moore instructed probate judges around the state to ignore the court’s order and continue to uphold the U.S. and Alabama constitutions. This led to a smear-campaign against the Chief Justice by the homosexual lobby and the mainstream media.
The JIC filed charges against Moore earlier this month. Moore’s suspension was based on politically-motivated complaints from anti-marriage organizations such as the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Human Rights Campaign, and Equality Wiregrass; as well as an anonymous drag queen going by the name “Ambrosia Starling.”
The charges go to another appointed body, the Court of the Judiciary, headed by Judge Michael Joiner. The court could either clear Moore of his charges or remove him from the bench.
